Restoration of the historic Suburban Station and construction of the SKM line monitoring center in Gdynia
T4B is delivering a project of exceptional importance for the Tri-City (Gdańsk–Gdynia–Sopot) and its residents: the restoration of Gdynia’s historic Suburban Station, modernization of platform infrastructure, and the construction of a monitoring center and modern passenger information system along the entire Szybka Kolej Miejska (SKM) line between Gdańsk Śródmieście and Rumia Janowo.
The works—now nearing completion—are being carried out by a consortium of T4B (leader) and MAXTO Technology.
„Design & Build”
Executed in a design & build formula, the project not only restores the station’s historic character, but also gives it a new role—as a security and passenger-information management center. This is the heart of the supervision system, covering CCTV across the entire SKM corridor.
Scope of the investment includes:
Restoration of the Suburban Station in Gdynia — respecting the building’s historic and aesthetic value while adapting spaces for modern technologies.
Modernization of the Gdynia Główna platform — surface refurbishment, track replacement, and upgrades to meet today’s passenger-service standards.
New Passenger Information System (PIS) — installation of modern boards, audio systems, and screens at all stations on the Gdańsk Śródmieście – Rumia Janowo line, providing current data on services, delays, and timetable changes.
Video surveillance system — covering the entire SKM line, including platforms, underpasses, and common areas, enabling higher safety standards, real-time response, and supporting railway operations.
Monitoring and operations center — located in the renovated station building, acting as the main hub for traffic, safety, and passenger-information management.
An investment for residents and tourists
Modern communication and safety systems improve the daily travel experience for Tri-City residents and enhance service for tourist traffic, which grows significantly in summer. By integrating technology with heritage architecture, the project creates a space that blends tradition with modernity—another step toward smart, safe, and functional public transport.
