Modern infrastructure and improved road safety in Warmia and Mazury
Today, the Suburban Railway Station in Gdynia, restored by T4B, has been reopened to the public – a historic facility that has gained a new, strategic role as a monitoring and management center for the SKM line.
The station comes back to life as a key hub ensuring passenger safety and comprehensive passenger information, while combining the protection of historic architecture with advanced technological solutions for public transport.
This was a unique and highly demanding, multi-stage project, additionally carried out under the strict supervision of the heritage conservator. Several years of work were felt by both residents and passengers, but their scale demonstrates how complex this undertaking was: renovation of historic woodwork, modernization of terraces, roof replacement, modernization of a section of the track and overhead catenary network, reconstruction of architectural details, construction of an extensive IT system – now the technological heart of the SKM line, installation of new information boards and a visual information system at the station and on platforms. The station building was also equipped with an elevator, taking into account passengers with mobility impairments.
Historic architecture has gained new life, and the entire SKM line covering the platforms:
- Gdańsk: Śródmieście, Główny, Stocznia, Politechnika, Wrzeszcz, Zaspa, Przymorze-Uniwersytet, Oliwa, Żabianka - AWFiS
- Sopot: Wyścigi, Sopot, Kamienny Potok
- Gdynia: Orłowo, Redłowo, Wzgórze Św. Maksymiliana, Główna, Stocznia - Uniwersytet Morski, Grabówek, Leszczynki, Chylonia, Cisowa, Rumia Janowo
ensures smooth traffic flow and travel comfort – for both residents and tourists.
This is another step towards intelligent, safe, and modern mobility in the Tricity.
